Beijing Olympics 2008: China is on the Move to Impress Visitors

May 01, 2007

As part of its preparations for the Olympics-2008, to be held in Beijing, China has launched a countrywide campaign for improving the behaviors of its domestic tourists.

There's been a speedy growth in Chinese tourism in past few years, however the quality of domestic tourists lags far behind the number. This has hugely affected the image of the country across the world, as per a circular from Guiding Ethic & Cultural Progress' Central Commission.

The campaign that began in mid-August 2006 will end in August-2008, when the Olympic games commence in Beijing. To make this campaign successful the commission is working in cooperation with various government departments. Government departments that are involved in this campaign include the FM (Foreign Ministry), public security, construction, commerce, railways, transportation and civil aviation ministries, and National Tourism Administration.

This campaign will include collecting public opinions to form travel guidelines for local tourists and various activities shall be arranged in order to increase public awareness about tourism etiquettes, as per the circular.
