A New Biofuel Obligation For The Irish

May 15, 2007

The government of Ireland is expecting to raise its infiltration of biofuel market to 10 per cent by the year 2020.

The government of Ireland expects to boost its biofuel market penetration to 10 percent by the year 2020. Contrary to Swedish situations, Ireland intents to only use biofuel at a comparatively lower proportion of diesel and petrol, as per the news published on
Energy Business.

The recent European Govt. to announce its green credentials is Ireland, where the Irish farmers, will be encouraged to produce biofuel through a new renewable energy project worth an approx. US$ 8 Million. The minister of natural resources in Ireland also announced that all petrol and diesel would have to include 5.75 percent of biofuel.

Energy Minster Dempsey said "By establishing a 2020 target for biofuel, we are providing market players with long-term certainty to develop economically viable scale into their projects going forward. This will facilitate industry in developing appropriate financing, planting, refining, storage, distribution and supply chain logistics", in news, published by
Irish news.

The plan announced by the Energy Minister, is intended to attain carbon savings of more than 700,000 ton each year by 2009. This is equal to taking approximately 200,000 vehicles off the road annually.

There is a budding but rapidly increasing biofuel sector throughout Ireland. The entire sector will welcome this announcement, as it successfully heralds, the commencement of an alternative market in transport fuel market of Ireland.

The purpose with these Govt. targets is to raise substantially the role of bio-energy in transportation, heat and electricity generation and to generate new opportunities for the agriculture and the rural Ireland.

Bioverda is the only Irish company that has experience in operating and developing extensive biofuel facilities in the European market, but now it finds itself locked out to supply Biofuel in the Irish Market with its all production having to be sold in the markets of Europe and UK only.

As per the research analyst at
RNCOS, "In the Ireland there is still superseding trouble that profitability of processing and producing biofuel harvest remains low. If the industry is to expand to an important scale, the ways to improve profitability must be found".
