Nokia Introduces Oracle Enterprise Solutions on Handsets

Apr 30, 2007

Mobile users will now have access to some of the Oracle enterprise software on Nokia's latest enterprise mobile phones.

Nokia has announced the availability & certification of various mobile enterprise tools from Oracle on its E61 & E62 mobile handsets. These software include 'Mobile Field Service' & 'Siebel Wireless' (Mobile Field Service has been designed for workers to access their work schedule while they are in field. Siebel Wireless is a mobile CRM (customer relationship management) application). This will allow mobile field sales, field service, & mobile experts to use a single device to work on these high-utility business applications along with voice communications.

Anand Subbaraman, director of Oracle's Field Service Strategy, said by introducing enterprise applications to Nokia E-series handsets, the software giant aims to offer a mobile solution that can help professionals in making fast informed business decisions & provide better customer support and, especially, improve productivity & experience of a mobile worker.

Chris Fletcher, Director of Nokia's Alliance & Solutions Marketing, said that Nokia & Oracle could now allow real-time access to customer information for mobile professionals. This is important for sales professionals, executives & field service workers who spend maximum time working away from the office. Combination of Oracle's world-class applications along with Nokia's E61 & E62 devices makes up for a convincing enterprise solution for mobiles.

Earlier in 2006, Nokia introduced availability of some Oracle software on its smart phones, like Nokia 9300 & 9500 Communicator.

"A large number of firms provide solutions to enable corporate e-mail on mobile phones but companies like Nokia & Oracle are looking to focus on providing remote wireless access to other applications," said an analyst at RNCOS.

For instance, BlackBerry users can use various kinds of enterprise applications. IAnywhere Solutions also develops a platform that can be used by enterprises in mobilizing corporate applications.

Nokia has continued its endeavor of incorporating mobile enterprise solutions on its mobile handsets despite losses in several quarters. However, in Q3 2006, Nokia witnessed a 60 % rise in E-series phone sales.
