Digicel is aiming for expansion in Pacific.
Telecom Company Digicel has acquired a telecommunication firm Telecom Samoa. With this move of Digicel, it looks to broaden its presence in Pacific.
Current subscriber base of Telecom Samoa's is about 30,000. The subscribers will be asked to change from TDMA to GSM network.
Digicel Samoa will introduce a new GSM network in October with CSL mobile LTD, a local partner, signifying flagship operations of Digicel Pacific's that provides coverage to eighty percent of Samoa population.
According to chairman of Digicel in the pacific region, Digicel is entering into a new emerging market where communication requirements are unjustifiable. Digicel's sister concern in Caribbean is in twenty markets at present and Digicel is also eager to step in the new Samoan market.
Digicel is optimistic to get the best deal for consumers, tourists, and businesses in Samoa with a populace of about 180,000 people and penetration rate of 15 percent.
"Digicel is eying Samoa as an opportunity for the expansion in Pacific. Samoa is just a starting point", says an analyst at RNCOS.
At the time of launching, a new set of services and products with comprehensive range of GSM handset will be accessible. In addition, it'll also provide full roaming facilities.
So far, Samoan government & Papa New Guinea govt. has granted Digicel with GSM license. It has also been awarded a license from Fiji Government in the Month of April 2006. It also has an experimental license in islands of Solomon.
