Cell Phone Firms Pledge to Save Environment

Cell phone corporations have formed a group in their endeavor to reduce environmental pollution.

Mobile phone manufacturers, suppliers, consumer & environmental organizations, recyclers & network operators have shown their desire & commitment towards improvement of environmental impact of cellular phones. The group, headed by Nokia, will look forward to increase awareness among the consumers regarding take-back & recycling.

The group partners with EU's (European Union) project studying the ways where industries can work with stakeholders to decrease environmental pollution. Apart from Nokia, the group includes various other big names like Intel, Motorola, Vodafone & organizations like BEUC (European Consumers' Organization).

The group will work out the ways to decrease environmental impacts like decreasing energy consumption, discontinuing the use of concerning materials, increasing the number of phones gathered through recycling & take-back offers and increasing customer awareness about environmental impact of cellular products.

"Almost the entire manufacturing sector is posing some kind of threat to environment. After this initiative by mobile sector, we can hope other industries coming forward to save our environment, especially the firms in automobile, metal and other industries that cause major impacts on environment", said an analyst at
RNCOS.

Veli Sundback of Nokia said that to care for environment is the duty of mobile industry. He was optimistic that they will make marked improvements in every phase of mobile phone development & lifecycle and are committed to transform these ideas (to reduce environmental impacts) into reality.

Stavros Dimas, an environment commissioner stated that the products' manufacturing & consumption pose a big impact on the environment due to use of energy, transportation & other resources. He praised Nokia & other organizations and welcomed their commitment to reduce environmental pollution.
