Mauritius has set a target of two million tourists every year before 2015 and the government is drafting tourist-friendly policies to make the island a perfect tourist destination.
The tourism industry of Mauritius, an African island, is growing with each passing year. The country has set a target to increase the tourist arrival to two million per annum before 2015, as reported by gotravel insurance. Last year, around 907,000 tourists visited Mauritius.
Mauritius’ tropical climate makes it a distinct tourist destination and tourists come here to enjoy the pleasant climate. Besides, country’s exotic beaches also catch attention of tourists from all over the world.
The country is primarily known for pleasure holidays and therefore, majority of tourists come here for pleasure trips and a very small proportion of tourists come for business purpose.
A major reason for rise in tourism industry of Mauritius is initiatives taken by the government, as the government believes that tourism industry plays a key role in the economic growth of the country. Tourism ministry is aggressively running a promotional campaign this year on the Internet in which it is using Mauritian tourism page on Facebook.
Further, new air policy of the Mauritius government has given access of the island to international flights and hence, traveling to the island has become more convenient and easier. Transportation facilities and developed infrastructure have made traveling to various tourist attractions easier for traveler on the island.
To achieve the set target of two million tourists every year, the tourism ministry of Mauritius is developing a video clip based on the theme of “Survival of the Dodo”. It will show the beautiful sceneries of the island and is a part of the promotional campaign. The clip will be telecasted on various televisions stations in Europe. Besides, the Mauritius Tourism Promotional Authority (MTPA) is also running a campaign to promote tourism on the island and to project the island as the preferred leisure tourist destination for catching the attention of tourists from eastern India.
As per the Senior Research Analyst at RNCOS, “Promoting tourism in Mauritius has many advantages, like strong revenue generation and impetus to the economic growth of the country. The government, on its part, is doing a lot more except modernization of infrastructure, like making tourists feel safe and secure in the country are top agenda for the government.”
