New rules have been introduced in the insurance sector to make it more flexible and people friendly. These rules will make various policy application forms simple and easier to understand.
The ABI (Association of British Insurers) has clarified that the medial industry cannot refuse to clear claims due to the reason of not disclosing the medical information, unless the consumers intentionally hide the details deliberately, as reported by UKpress.
The new rules include provisions for modification in application forms and better communication with consumers. These provisions have been designed to reduce the number of medical claims that are rejected owing to “non-disclosure” of information. People will get lots of benefits from this commitment of the insurance industry. Now they can pay for protection policies where medical information has not been revealed, unless the applicant intentionally withheld it.
The move is followed by Law Commission’s strong criticism of the insurance industry for levying heavy duty on people looking for insurance to save the underwriter’s decision from any bad influence. It also said that this might include detail that people have no information about its relevance.
There is a provision in new rules which binds insurers to pay a decent amount showing as premiums and risks paid for information that has been left by mistake. In some cases, the premium will be repaid if the insurer thinks that he was unaware about certain facts of the policy. Thousands of medical claims on life insurances, critical illness, and income protection policies are denied every year because claimants fail to provide complete medical information.
Besides, insurers can check the medical record of claimants for particular items. It gives protection to claimants from insurers searching excuses or reasons to reject or deny a claim.
The new change is followed by a number of other proposals that are aimed to make application forms simple and easier to understand. The proposals also include details about various terms and conditions, which are associated with policies. The impact of these moves is evident from declining number of protection policies claims that have been denied.
According to a Research Analyst at RNCOS, “The drawbacks in the UK insurance industry have declined its growth. People have not been showing any interest in taking insurance policies but it is expected that new rules will change the situation. People will attract towards the insurance policies as the claims will be settled easily.”
