Offering advanced healthcare facilities at affordable prices, Jordan has been luring medical tourists from round the globe, and thus is on the way to become medical tourism hub.
In 2009, over 220,000 medical tourists visited Jordan, and hence revenues from the country’s medical tourism sector reached US$ 1.4 Billion, according to the latest figures released by Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO). Compared to 2008, this rise in the number of medical tourists in the Kingdom was 10% more, as per the news published by
IMJT.
Jordan’s high quality medical services successfully attracted medical tourists from Asia, Eastern Europe and the US. Increasing number of foreign medical tourists seeking advanced treatments are looking upon Jordan as one of the best destinations due to competitive healthcare costs in the country. It is noted that such treatments are either unavailable or unaffordable in their homelands.
In comparison to rest of the world, cost in Jordan is relatively low; healthcare treatments cost merely one-tenth of the cost in the US, and as per UK levels, it’s less than one-third.
Furthermore, the advanced status achieved by Jordan in the field of medical tourism is also because of the technical, human and medical potentials of the sector, which earned the Kingdom high repute, both regionally as well as globally.
Then, Jordan’s medical infrastructure is also backing the sector; the Kingdom has 60 private health institutions, most of the doctors speaks English, is affiliated with, or has been trained in top-notch hospitals in the US.
Not only this, the government is also putting in efforts to fuel growth into the sector. Considering the tremendous potential of the industry, Jordan Tourism Board is playing a highly active role to boost the industry. To solve the purpose, markets campaigns are being launched, including package deals from various hospitals and a web campaign.
According to a Research Analyst at
RNCOS, “In the field of medical tourism, Jordan is one of the world’s top five countries, and in term of health care services, the Kingdom is one of the leading nations. In an attempt to expand its medical tourism market, Jordan is currently focusing on the American market and various nations in the ex-Soviet Union and Africa. This expansion will allow Jordan to become a medical tourism hub.”
