Canadians Embracing Indian Medical Tourism Industry

Dec 19, 2009
Canadians are embracing the Indian medical treatments in other parts of the world after they have received satisfactory services at low cost from their own country and other developed nations.

Canadian people are increasingly flocking in India to get their treatments done by highly reputed medical professionals and with modernized technologies, as reported by Treatment Abroad. Many Canadians have been found saying that they would recommend India for healthcare services, which meet world-class standards and cost very less.

At an exhibition on medical tourism to India recently organized in Toronto, Canadians who have got their treatments done in India showed confidence on the Indian healthcare system.

One of the most important reasons that motivated foreign patients to seek healthcare services in India is low cost since treatments fee in the country range between one-half and one tenth of the US and other developed countries. Moreover, India has an edge over other Asian countries because medical services here are around one-third cheaper. In some cases such as transplants and other high cost procedures, prices are much lower, said “Booming Medical Tourism in India”, a market research report by RNCOS.

Besides, the tourist arrivals have boosted due to the fact that patients do not have wait here for treatment whereas they are bound to wait for long time in their own or other developed countries. For instance – elective surgery in government health plan of Canada can take up to two years and even for an MRI scan, patient has to wait for 3-4 months. Thus, India is attracting more and more Canadian patients.

Another factor that seems particularly relevant and promising in case of Canadian patients is large number of Indian doctor in their home country. Therefore, people coming to India have a high comfortable level because they are already familiar with Indian doctors. In addition, all Indian doctors and nurses could speak English.

Canadians are facing healthcare crisis, given a large number of problems have cropped up like shortage of doctors, spiraling treatment cost and non-availability of private specialists. Under such conditions, the selection of India as treatment a destination brings relief for Canadians.

According to a Research Analyst at RNCOS, “Canada represents a lucrative market for the Indian medical tourism industry which holds strong potential for growth. World-class medical infrastructure, availability of best doctors and hospitals and low cost attract medical tourists to visit India. It is expected that India will see more Canadian tourists in coming years.”
