The UAE telecom industry is projected to grow at a rapid pace in 2009 in the backdrop of rising demand for value added mobile services and integration of new technologies.
The UAE telecom industry is expected to see positive growth in 2009 and industry experts said that they would use the Gulfcomms Exhibition, a part of of Gitex Technology Week 2009, as a platform to continue the growth pace, as reported by AMEINFO.
As per Al Mal Capital, the UAE telecom industry is projected to grow to Dhs 29.72 Billion in 2009. Etisalat, telecom giant in the UAE, registered profits of Dhs 4.593 Billion in the first half of 2009, exemplifying that the company had forbear the global economic slowdown.
Industry experts have acknowledged that the Middle East is one of the fastest growing telecommunications and networking sectors in the world. Gulfcomms is likely to attract even greater interest than previous years.
The Middle East is a big and diverse market in both mobile and fixed line services. In mobile, focus of the market is per-population subscription penetration range between the huge 173% of the UAE to the mid-teens of Yemen.
Tom Heeremans, General Manager for Middle East and Africa, of the mobile settlements provider MACH, said: "So there are still markets that are nowhere, as a manner of speaking, and others where the operators are still all looking to add new services," as reported by Light Reading on July 16, 2009.
"But basically, the market is maturing, and I would say that it is like Europe in earlier stages," he said.

Hence, operators are finding new sources of growth to capitalize on vast untapped market. This has resulted into the launch of new technologies such as Mobile TV, VoIP, IPTV, etc.
According to a Research Analyst at RNCOS, "Technologies should be introduced in the market keeping people's requirement in mind so that they easily get information. Customers are increasingly demanding new technologies and companies are striving to provide simpler and affordable solutions of communications."
