Zimbabwe Sets to Welcome Soccer Players & Fans Next Year

Jul 01, 2009

Zimbabwe is optimistic of making full use of 2010 Soccer World to be hosted in South Africa by attracting both players and fans.

Zimbabwe is optimistic of earning millions of dollar from tourists and training tours by international football players when the World Cup takes place in South Africa next year, as reported by guardian.

Splendid and exotic waterfalls are one of the top tourist attractions in Africa, but the ongoing political violence and economic disruption in Zimbabwe have substantially reduced the inflow of tourists. The revenue generated from tourist arrivals slumped from the 1999's peak of $360 Million to $29 Million in 2008.

After the formation of a unity government on February 13, 2009, Zimbabwe has identified the tourism industry as the core of its economic revival efforts. Moreover, this gives an indication that political and economic crisis are gradually stabilizing.

The Tourism Minister of Zimbabwe went to Brazil last month on the sidelines of getting help from Brazil to revive the battered travel sector of the South African country. The Minister said that the country's delegation signed marketing agreements with Brazil and a trading delegation from there (Brazil) would visit Zimbabwe.

The huge turnout of soccer fan pre or post of the World Cup will be a gift for the prosperous nation. Soccer teams of different countries, including Brazil, England and Germany, will boost to the morale of millions of soccer-mad fans.

Moreover, the tourism industry officials have been working hard to promote domestic tourism. They are using different means including marketing places such as Nyanga and attracting people to Eastern Highlands.

Given the fact that Nyanga and the Eastern Highlands are two most spectacular tourist spots in Zimbabwe outside the Victoria Falls, the industry experts are confident of the launch of the Nyanga Campaign as it will increase the flow of tourists both international and domestic in the country.

According to a Research Analyst at RNCOS, "Zimbabwe remained in limelight throughout the past decade for some wrong reasons. But the hosting of Soccer World Cup next year in Africa is a perfect opportunity for the country to wipe out pariah image and showcase the world that Zimbabwe has many things to offer to visitors."
