The Indian mobile market is expected to have around 500 Million mobile phone users by 2010 as the country is offering conducive environment to telecom companies.
According to Vice-President and Managing Director of Nokia in India, D Shivakumar, the mobile consumers number will reach 500 Million by end of 2010 in the country in which 250 Million consumers use Internet feature, 60 Million availing video feature, 100 Million accessing music capability, 200 Million radio capability and around 250 Million making use of camera feature on their cell phones, as reported by Business-Standard.
Shivakumar also disclosed that next three years (2008-2010) would change the Indian mobile market with addition of one and half times extra mobile users compared to what India added in last 10 years. Infact, it was highest selling durable and the best way to reach the consumers for advertisers.
Industry experts believe that roll out of 3G network in India will completely transform the mobile industry as people get services like banking, movie, healthcare, education and entertainment on their mobile phones. This will have a positive impact on the demand of cell phones, more so because next generation prefers to have advanced devices.
Moreover, the inclusion of new technologies like Global Positioning System (GPS), Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) and other technologies will drive the mobile phone market in the country. Addition of Mobile TV technology will also attract people for buying mobile phones and ultimately, infuse growth in the entire mobile sector.
Another factor cited by industry experts is low call rate charges along with the availability of affordable recharge coupons in different denominations. Burgeoning competition within the industry is forcing telecom companies to support their services with fast networks, which has increased the usability of mobiles in the country. Additionally, the growing Indian economy is increasing the employment rate that leads to rising affordability for mobile phones. People have also become conscious about their status and take mobile as a status symbol, thus using mobile phones excessively.
As per a Research Analyst at RNCOS, “With technology making mobile phone more advanced, it just not confined to voice services. Addition of new services has opened new avenues of growth for the Indian mobile phone market, which still has large untapped areas. Good business conditions are creating opportunities for both carriers and mobile manufacturers.”
